I am a Belgian painter living and working in Testelt. Originally trained as a teacher, I shifted my focus to drawing and painting in the early eighties. I began my studies at the ‘Hogeschool Imelda Instituut’ in Brussels and then attended the academies of Painting and Etching at St. Lucas Brussels, SLAC Leuven, Rijksacademie Anderlecht, and Habk Aarschot. In 1994, I was nominated for the Dirk Bouts Prize in Leuven.
“Ugliness not only destroys the eyes, but also the spirit and the heart” says Henry Van de Velde (1863-1957)
“Hilde Plessers’ style is characterized by a strong sense of light alternating with depth and darkness, using sunlight through the window as sources for her paintings (views from a window). Her oil canvases are simultaneously realistic and abstract. The colors are ‘polluted’ (toned) and layered. Her work has been exhibited in various solo exhibitions in her home country and in group exhibitions internationally.”
